Congratulations to Mark Slater from BRD on being selected to be the Queensland flag bearer at the 2017 Australian Championships Opening Ceremony.
Mark Slater took up dragon boating as a novice in 2011 and quickly developed a love for the sport so joined Brisbane Rivers Dragons (BRD) the same year and has been heavily involved in competition ever since. Dragon boating presented a new interest outside of work, an avenue to enhance fitness, and a means of achieving greater work/life balance.
Mark has been fortunate to be involved in some very strong club and state teams that have achieved a significant level of success at all levels.
His commitment to dragon boating and BRD in particular saw him become increasingly involved with club administration holding the role of Vice-President in 2012-13; the following year Mark became President and has held this position since that time. In 2015-16 Mark took up a role with Dragon Boat Queensland (DBQ) on the Discipline Committee and currently holds the Chair position of that committee for 2016-17.
Mark actively promotes dragon boating and staging of events and notably on behalf of DBQ took on the organisation role for the Australian Police and Emergency Services Games Dragon Boat Regatta held on the Sunshine Coast in October 2016. At club level he continues to promote the club’s involvement in staging local regattas, corporate events, the Hakka Festival Dragon Boat Regatta and the annual Queensland Corporate Games Dragon Boat Regatta.
“Dragon boating has been a very rewarding experience for me over the last few years, and I look forward to a continuing association with the sport in the years to come.”
The ceremony will be held late afternoon on Wednesday 19th April. Would be great to have all those who have already made their way to Wodonga to attend the ceremony and show their Queensland support.
