Established in 1998 Brisbane River Dragons (BRD) is the oldest dragon boat club in Brisbane. Since its inception BRD has also introduced outrigger canoe as a paddling discipline as another core activity of the club. We are a highly competitive, yet social paddling club, which trains and competes throughout the year.
We provide members with the opportunity to train in a range of water craft types from OC6 and OC2 outrigger canoes, kayaks, and of course, the biggest of them all, dragon boats. Our training sessions are tailored for all level of paddlers, social or highly competitive. Our competition goals are pursued with annual campaigns at the State, National and World Championship levels becoming more successful each year.
BRD has been supported by several government grants which have enabled it to further develop its fleet and implement its business plan, which will guide our future growth and development.
BRD maintains highly qualified coaching teams in both dragon boat and outrigger canoe disciplines to ensure maximum development and performance of its members.
There are five different categories in which BRD competes competitively during the dragon boat season which generally runs from around August to April the following year.
