How much does it cost? There are two types of entry available depending on the type of crew you would like to enter. 1. Corporate Crew 2. Community Crew What are the benefits? Here are some of the benefits your team will enjoy:
Why is the regatta held?Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is sometimes called the Lunar New Year, especially by people outside China. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. Celebrated in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese, Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbours, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. The Brisbane River Dragons and South Bank Corporation hold the Chinese New Year Corporate Regatta to help the wider community celebrate this important cultural occasion. How many people do we need?A complete crew is made up of 24 paddlers. Only 20 ever paddle at once but it is useful to have some subs to rotate throughout the day. You can have less than 20 paddlers on the day as the remainder can be filled by BRD club paddlers. Are the teams mixed?Yes. All races for the CNY09 are mixed, but each crew must have a minimum of eight female paddlers. Where is the regatta held?Racing takes place on the Brisbane River, directly in front of the beach at South Bank. Crews are assigned a location along Clem Jones Promenade. They will be based here for the day and is a great spot which overlooks the all of the action.
